The coming of age tradition. Hamer man jump over a line of butter covered, slippery back of the line of cuttles. This ceremony, if passed, allows one to marry, own cattle and have children. In the afternoon of the ‘Jumping over the bull’ ceremony, as guests gather, the man’s female relatives, usually sisters, oblige to be whipped as part of the ceremony.
